Driveway & patio cleaning in Edinburgh
Scottish weather turns paving green. Our commercial rotary machines turn it back, without the streaks a hired pressure washer leaves behind. Most driveways take two to four hours.

The same patio. The owners had forgotten the slabs were sandstone coloured.
If it's outside and it's gone green, we clean it
- Block paving driveways, with kiln-dried sand re-jointing
- Tarmac driveways
- Patios, flagstones and concrete slabs
- Garden paths and steps
- Decking and garden furniture
- Conservatory bases and garden walls
- Car parks and commercial hard standings
We use commercial rotary heads rather than a standard lance, which is why the finish comes out even instead of striped.
Five steps, one tidy finish
Assess the surface
Block paving, tarmac and sandstone all behave differently under pressure. We check the surface type and problem areas before any water flows.
Pre-treat the growth
Specialist solutions target moss, algae and oil deposits first. Killing the root systems matters more than blasting off what you can see, because that's what slows regrowth.
Rotary pressure clean
The rotary head cleans evenly across the whole surface. No stripes, no missed edges.
Re-sand the joints
On block paving we refill the joints with kiln-dried sand where needed, which keeps blocks stable and makes life harder for weeds.
Walk the job with you
We do a final inspection together before we leave. If something's not right, it gets fixed there and then.
Ten seconds of very satisfying footage
This is what a rotary clean looks like in action. The line between cleaned and uncleaned tells you everything about why people book this in spring.
Beyond the looks, there's a practical case: wet moss on a sloped driveway is a genuine slip hazard, and moss holding moisture against paving accelerates freeze-thaw cracking. Cleaning is cheaper than re-laying.
Driveway questions, answered
How long does a driveway clean take?
Between two and four hours for a typical residential driveway, depending on size, surface and how established the moss is.
Why not just hire a pressure washer for the weekend?
You can, and you'll get a striped driveway and a sore back. Domestic lances clean unevenly and can't shift established moss roots. The rotary machines clean uniformly, and the pre-treatment stops the growth coming straight back.
Do you re-sand block paving afterwards?
Yes, with kiln-dried sand where the joints need it. Skipping this step is how cleaned paving ends up loose and weedy six months later.
Is a mossy driveway actually a problem, or just ugly?
Both. Wet moss is slippery enough to be a real hazard, especially on slopes in winter. It also traps moisture against the surface, which speeds up freeze-thaw damage. And it's ugly.
